It’s time to take action.
Free, fair, and representative elections are the foundation of our democracy, and the nonpartisan organizations that protect them need urgent support. To safeguard our elections in 2026 and beyond, philanthropy must start earlier, reach further, and move all their planned 501(c)(3) election-related funding by the end of April.
It’s not enough to be aware of the threats facing our elections.
Philanthropy must act.
Late money makes it harder for leaders to plan and hire for the election season, creating stress and churn.
Early money helps nonprofits be more efficient and flexible, strengthening their reach and results.
A “wait and see” approach can be too little, too late for fast-moving election cycles.
Philanthropy needs to be:
Early
Urgent
Aligned
The All by April campaign invites funders across philanthropy – foundations, individual donors, donor advisors, pooled funds, donor networks, and other philanthropic professionals – to take part in a shared effort to strengthen democracy by acting early. Taking early action can look like:
-
Making all or most election-related funding commitments by April.
-
Equipping organizations with resources faster by making early payments and moving up existing commitments by April.
-
Reducing the burden on organizations by streamlining grant application and renewal processes.
-
Empowering organizations to respond to the moment by providing general support funds, including multi-year resources whenever possible.
-
Trusting pro-democracy allies and field leaders to identify urgent needs.
Our proven strategy
When funders give early, their investments have a greater impact. In 2024, All by April mobilized $155 million in new grants and accelerated payments to nonpartisan elections and voting organizations when it mattered most. We’re calling on philanthropy to start even earlier and reach even further.
